Balkans trips: FAQs

Why Greece and Albania?

God spoke to us as a larger family of churches at least 20 years ago that it’s time to go to Europe. We have successfully and faithfully been doing that in predominantly French speaking parts of Europe. We believe that there is a fresh call to go to Europe again.

Over several years we have been developing links with churches in Greece. A place where 0.1% of the population are Christian and where there are so many nationalities living there. As we have developed links there is much, we can learn from being there as well as being able to serve them.

As we have developed links in Greece, God has been speaking about reaching the Balkan nations and links have developed in Albania as well as other nations in that area.

Who are the trips for?

The trip is open to anyone of all ages from young to older. We want to take multi-generation teams. We are asking that children and young people must be accompanied by an adult, either a parent/guardian or a group of young people with appropriate youth workers.

What will we be doing?

We will be serving and working with two churches. These churches are working with the Greeks, Roma, Albanians and refugees from many nations. Some of the things we may do are outreach for children and families in local parks, playing games, craft, telling stories, running a nail bar for refugee woman, or serving in charity shop that the church runs. We will spend most of the time doing missional activities, in which we will be sharing the gospel.

There is a saying they often use which is that they are working on Greek time, so much of what we are doing will become clearer as we get closer.

How much does it cost?

The cost will be around £500-600, including flights, accommodation, main meals. You will need some additional euros with you for drinks, ice creams etc.

Where will I sleep?

We will sleep in a mixture of Airbnbs, hotels etc. This is included in the cost outlined above.

What about food?

We will eat our main meals in cafés and restaurants. Breakfast we will get from the local supermarket or bakery. This will be covered in the cost outlined above. The regular staple of souvlaki will be often on the menu.
